Concerns Raised About Baynes Sound Connector Ferry Service and Traffic

infrastructure · August 2023 · Baynes Sound Connector ferry and Denman Island terminals

Residents expressed concerns about ongoing issues with the Baynes Sound Connector ferry, including mechanical problems, traffic congestion at terminals, and safety risks caused by tourist vehicles. Suggestions include limiting tourist RV length, reconsidering Hornby's assured first-come-first-served loading lane, and holding a public meeting on Denman to address these problems.

This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

  • “Denman continues to compete not only for road access, but limited ferry deck space due to an unsustainable number of tourist vehicles... I strongly urge BC Ferries set up a public meeting on Denman to address the above problems that continue to create an enormous strain on Denman and on BCF’s heroic ferry staff.” — The Islands Grapevine – August 31st, 2023 (August 31st, 2023)
