Concerns Raised About Islands Trust Affordable Housing Bylaw Process

governance · May-June 2022 · Islands Trust jurisdiction, Denman Island

A community member expressed concerns about the Islands Trust affordable housing initiative and related bylaw changes, citing limited public consultation time, difficulty accessing information, and lack of response to written submissions. The individual also noted that further public input is prohibited after the public hearing stage until final adoption, which may take several months.

This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

  • “The meetings themselves seemed far too constrained... leaving the Public Hearing even more rushed... Written submissions were given no reference and they as well as the oral submissions got no response.” — The Islands Grapevine – June 16th, 2022 (June 16th, 2022)
