Concerns Raised Over Ferry Traffic and Safety on Denman Island

infrastructure · August 2023 · Denman Island ferry terminals and roads

Residents expressed concerns about increased traffic and safety issues at Denman ferry terminals due to tourism and ferry service changes. A letter to BC Ferries urged replacement of the Baynes Sound Connector and consideration of a direct ferry to Hornby Island. Suggestions included limiting tourist RV length, reserving lanes for essential travelers, and holding public meetings to address traffic and safety problems.

This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

  • “Hornby traffic was backed up beyond the Guest House and frequently vehicles and massive RVs gridlocked the intersection... At the very least, there needs to be flaggers directing backed up traffic off of Denman Road.” — The Islands Grapevine – September 7th, 2023 (September 7th, 2023)
