Concerns Raised Over GLID Water Project and Rates

infrastructure · March 2023 · GLID service area, Denman Island

Issues with the GLID water project were discussed, including lack of clear deadlines, inadequate project management, and high projected water rates of $4,400 per year for 20 years for under 100 household connections. Local CVRD Director Daniel Arbour has put a hold on the project. A steering committee and better project fundamentals are recommended.

This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

  • “A big thank you to Daniel Arbour (elected Director, CVRD District A) who recently put a “stop-hold” to the madness... The CVRD $4,400 dollar per year water rates for 20 years will not be celebrated by the new service area landowner... The new owner-operator (CVRD) was never the lottery ticket or magic wand to make it all disappear.” — The Islands Grapevine – March 2nd, 2023 (March 2nd, 2023)
