Concerns Raised Over Rogers Cell Tower Consultation Process
governance · September 8, 2023 · Hornby Island
At a Hornby Island Islands Trust meeting on September 8, 2023, concerns were raised about the consultation process between Rogers Communications and the Islands Trust regarding a proposed 63-meter cell tower on Hornby Island. It was revealed that Rogers had been in secret communication with Trust officials for five months without informing the community or Local Trust Committee. The process was criticized as lacking transparency and public consultation.
This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

The community never heard a thing until November, 2022... The five month covert consultation process happened to coincide with our Trustee elections.” — The Islands Grapevine – September 14th, 2023 (September 14th, 2023)
