Denman Island Residents Advocate for Stricter Environmental Protection Policies

environment · July 8, 2025 · 7000 Point Road, Denman Island

A group of Denman Island community members have written to local Island Trust Trustees urging stronger policies and bylaws to protect forests and sensitive ecosystems, citing concerns about clear-cutting and ecological damage at 7000 Point Road. The Islands Trust has responded by notifying the property owner to hire a surveyor to assess development permit areas.

This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

Eartha's follow-up call to Warren Dingman, IT Bylaw officer, on Tuesday, July 8, revealed that a Bylaw officer did go to the site... The owner has been notified that they must hire a private surveyor to establish if any work has been done inside development permit areas.” — The Islands Grapevine – July 10th, 2025 (July 10th, 2025)
