Letter from K’ómoks First Nation Chief on Midden Site Protection

Chief Nicole Rempel of the K’ómoks First Nation issued a letter explaining the cultural, historical, and spiritual significance of shell middens on Denman Island. The letter urges residents to proceed carefully with development near these sites, which often contain ancestral remains, and to contact KFN and the Archaeology Branch if human remains or artifacts are found.
