Local Grower Builds Peach House to Cultivate Peaches on Denman
environment · Summer 2023 · Denman Island
A local grower on Denman Island has built a 10x14 foot peach house with transparent plastic roofing to protect peach trees from rain and improve fruit production. The grower hand-pollinates the trees due to early blooming and plans to add polyethylene panels for additional heat retention in winter.
This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

- “My husband had a peach house built backing on to a building with a pretty good southern exposure... Our peach house is 10 feet wide and 14 feet long... I get a small ladder and a watercolour brush and spend a few hours... pollinating them myself.” — The Islands Grapevine – August 24th, 2023 (August 24th, 2023)
