In April 2021, blockades protecting old-growth forests on Pacheedaht territory continued amid political tensions. The Pacheedaht Band Council Chief, with NDP support, requested third-party activists to leave, citing interference with self-determination, while promising a Forest Stewardship Plan for conservation and economic alternatives. The Rainforest Flying Squad and hereditary elder Bill Jones continue to lead peaceful protection efforts, opposing government and industry resource extraction.
