Power Outage and Water Pump Replacement Over Christmas

infrastructure · 2023-12-25 · Denman Island neighbourhood

A 24-hour power outage occurred in a Denman Island neighbourhood on Christmas Day, followed by a water outage due to an ancient pump failure. Repairs included electrical upgrades and installation of a new pump, restoring water service.

This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

  • “Christmas Day was a wild storm—we had a 24 hour power outage in my neighbourhood... The next day, the power returned, but the water did not... Turns out the pump was ancient... Now, it’s all shiny and new, and I’m told it will be up and running when I return.” — The Islands Grapevine – January 4th, 2024 (January 4th, 2024)
