Referendum on Fibre-Optic Internet Service for Denman and Hornby Islands
infrastructure · November 27, 2021 · Denman and Hornby Islands
A referendum was scheduled for November 27, 2021, to allow the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) to enter the service area and borrow approximately $770,000 to fund installation of fibre-optic internet, television, and telephone services on Denman and Hornby Islands. The loan would be repaid over 10 years through a modest property tax charge. Voting options included in-person and mail-in ballots.
This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.
