Update on Ferry Noise Reduction Petition

infrastructure · Baynes Sound Connector ferry

Following a petition signed by over 100 people to reduce noise from the Baynes Sound Connector ferry's safety announcement, ferry authorities have agreed to shorten the message by about two-thirds, reduce the volume, and reposition speakers to face downwards. Further feedback from residents is requested.

This is the archive, not the newspaper. Between 2018 and 2026 this site compiled these items automatically from public community sources — chiefly The Islands Grapevine, regional news feeds and community groups. They were not written by a reporter and were not held to the standards this publication now applies. The archive is kept because it is a useful dated record of what happened on Denman, and it is labelled because pretending otherwise would be the first thing we would tell you not to trust. Current reporting is at The Denman Firestarter.

  • “At the last Ferry Liaison meeting one of our local Island Trust Representatives presented the petition... The volume has apparently been turned down. The speakers that were pointing directly at Denman have been repositioned to face down to the deck.” — The Islands Grapevine – March 28th, 2019 (March 28th, 2019)
